Cracked iPad glass: glass only or full screen, depending on the model

Apple has used two screen constructions on iPads. Understanding which is yours means understanding the price.
Separate glass and panel
iPad 5 to 10, and the old first-generation iPad mini and Air: the touch glass is one part, the LCD panel another, underneath. If the picture is intact we replace only the touch glass, with the home button transferred to keep Touch ID. It is the cheapest iPad repair.
Laminated screen
iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, every iPad Pro: the glass is bonded to the panel. We replace the assembly, dearer, but thinner and with no gap between glass and picture.
How it goes
The glass is heated and lifted from the frame (a very strong adhesive all round), residue is cleaned, sensors and button transferred, and the new screen is bonded with fresh adhesives, then left under press for a few hours. Hence a one-day turnaround in general. Your data is never touched.
