Switch OLED cracked screen: glass alone or full panel?
A Switch that fell off the bunk bed: the glass is a spider's web, but the picture behind is perfect. Good news, that changes everything.
On the Switch OLED as on the V1/V2, the screen is made of a touch glass bonded onto a display panel. The two can be separated, and that is what allows us to change only what is broken.
Cracked glass, intact picture
If the display is perfect and touch still responds (or almost), we replace only the touch glass. We lift the old one with heat, clean the panel, fit a new glass with optical adhesive. It is the cheaper of the two repairs.
Damaged picture
Black patches, lines, half the screen dark: the panel is affected and we replace the full screen, glass included. On the OLED the panel is pricier than on the V2, hence the price gap on the prices page.
The Switch Lite case
On the Lite the glass and panel are also separable, and parts are cheap: it is often the repair that brings back a console thought to be finished.
In every case we check that the frame isn't bent and the rails aren't split, otherwise the new screen won't last. Your saves are never touched by these repairs.
