DJI drone: “gimbal motor error” after a crash, what we repair
The drone hit a branch, it still flies, but the picture shakes, or the app shows a gimbal error. Almost always repairable.
The gimbal carries the camera on three small motors that stabilise it constantly. It is a precision mechanism at the front of the drone, exposed to the slightest knock.
What we find after a crash
- Gimbal flex cut or pinched: no picture or a jumping picture, “gimbal disconnected” message. The flex is replaced on its own.
- Axis motor bent or seized: “gimbal motor error”, the camera stalls or vibrates. Replacement of the affected motor.
- Broken gimbal arm: the camera hangs. Arm or module replacement.
- Dampers torn off: the camera shakes in flight. Small part, quick repair.
- Camera or sensor hit: depending on model, replacement of the complete camera-gimbal module.
