Android that won't charge: one time in three, it is dust
The cable no longer holds, you have to push hard, it charges every other time. The port may be the cause. Maybe not.
A USB-C port opens downwards, into a pocket full of fibres. Every plug-in compacts what is in there a little more. After a year, a plug of packed fibres stops the connector going all the way in: the cable no longer holds, and charging becomes random.
The clean
Under the stereo microscope, with a fine non-metallic tool, we loosen and remove the plug, then blow out and clean the contacts. Two minutes, and the cable clicks in cleanly again. It is included in the diagnosis; if the port was just dirty and nothing else, charging is back and that is all you pay.
When the port really is dead
Bent or burnt contacts, broken centre tongue, port moving in the frame: we replace the connector. On most Galaxys and recent Androids it sits on a small daughterboard, replaced without soldering; on other models it is soldered to the logic board, and that is micro-soldering. And if it is neither
The charging circuit on the logic board, as on iPhone. Again a component-level repair at a fixed price, rather than a new board.
A tip: never use a metal object to clean a port, and don't blow compressed air with the can upside down, the liquid propellant freezes the contacts.
